The Patient Care Assistant at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center  is a critical part of the medical care team that is trained to assist patients in multiple units and departments of the hospital such as Emergency, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation, and more.

P.C.A.s work under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses and are responsible for providing excellent patient care to complete strangers in some of the worst and most difficult moments of their lives.

Patient Care Assistants demonstrate compassion and professionalism helping patients with basic hygiene (dressing, feeding, bathing, help using the bathroom, etc.), turning and repositioning patients, moving patients between beds and wheelchairs, escorting or transporting patients, listening to health concerns and reporting concerns to the Registered Nurse, monitoring and documenting vital signs, performing clerical duties, using the electronic charting system to document all activity and medical information, restocking supplies, and more.

Patient Care Assistants are expected to demonstrate excellent time management prioritizing the care and needs of multiple patients, follow directions well, take initiative, maintain patient confidentiality, work under pressure and in emotionally difficult circumstances, put safety first always, and be a team player.

Most new Patient Care Assistants at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center work 3 rotating shifts per week that include working every other weekend for a total of 36 hours per week.

Day shift is 7:00am to 7:30pm

Night shift is 7:00pm to 7:30am
